NCMC Events From Around the State… February 8, 2010

1). Asheville Art Museum The Asheville Art Museum is pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Andre Chaves titled Illustrated Books of the Arts & Crafts Era followed by a reception and tour of “Nouns: Children’s Book Artists Look at People, Places and Things” from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Dr. Andre Chaves will present an illustrated talk about book illustrations from the 1880s and 1920s, with a special emphasis on children’s classics and renowned illustrators such as N.C. Wyeth.

2). N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences visits Port Discover for Dinosaur Discovery!, on Saturday, February 13 at 11 a.m. Educators from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences will lead an exploration into the awe-inspiring world of dinosaurs. Learn about the habits and lifestyles of dinosaurs while comparing live animals to these prehistoric wonders.

3). Museum of the Albemarle The Museum of the Albemarle will hold Pre-Schooler Time on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 10:00 am until 10:45 am. Children must be between the ages of 3 to 5 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will form a link to the Museum’s collection by viewing selected Valentines cards, read a story and participate in a creative activity.

4). Fort Anderson/Brunswick Town Just as they did in 1865, Union and Confederate forces will clash in battles over Ft. Anderson and Town Creek on Feb. 20-21, as the Brunswick Town/Ft. Anderson State Historic Site commemorates the 145th anniversary of the Confederates’ final attempt to prevent Union soldiers from taking Ft. Anderson and ultimately Wilmington.

5). Greensboro Children’s Museum Dr. Joel Schwartz, author of Noses Are Red, a Humorous and Insightful Guide on How to Nurture Your Child's Sense of Humor, will speak at the Greensboro Children's Museum Friday, February 19th at 6:30pm.

6). N.C. Transportation Museum The N.C. Transportation Museum will honor Black History Month this February with a special program on the Tuskegee Airmen. Historian Leonard Hunter will speak about the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first black military fighter pilots. The program was originally scheduled for Feb. 6, but due to the threat of wintry weather, has been postponed to Feb. 13.
