Preservation grants offered

2008 NCPC Preservation Grants

The North Carolina Preservation Consortium (NCPC) is accepting applications for preservation grants from libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, and other heritage institutions in North Carolina. Projects may include the preservation of books, manuscripts, journals, documents, photographs, film, sound recordings, maps, architectural drawings, art, and artifacts. The maximum award is $2,000.00. Application deadline is January 15, 2008. Program details and an application are available on the NCPC Web site: http://www.ncpreservation.org/.

2007 NCPC Preservation Grant Recipients:
The Carteret County Public Library in Beaufort was awarded $1,500 to preserve the Ethel T. Elliott Collection which contains manuscripts, bound volumes, ancestry charts, family histories, indexes, documents, and microfilm. Elliott was a professional genealogist and historian.

The DeTamble Library at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg was awarded $1,500 to preserve film slides, photographs, negatives, and contact sheets in the College Archives that document the history of the St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort was awarded $1,700 to fund a preservation and collection assessment of nautical objects and artifacts that pertain to North Carolina's maritime history and culture.

The Prezell R. Robinson Library at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh was awarded $1,300 to preserve the George "Pup" Williams Collection which includes awards, correspondence, contracts, newspaper articles, yearbooks, photographs, oral interviews, flags, clothing, plaques, and trophies. Williams is a renowned Olympic Track Coach and an alumnus of Saint Augustine's College.
