1.) The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh is hosting its annual Chemistry Day on Saturday, October 20th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event includes several activities (small fee for optional gem mining), including a "Fun with Liquid Nitrogen" presentation at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The following Saturday, Oct. 27, will feature Dr. Pete Makovicky's free presentation, "Beyond Jurassic Park: New Insights into Sickle-clawed Dinosaurs," at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium, in conjunction with the opening of "Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries."

2). The Fall Into Folk Art Show, Sale & Supper will be held at the Hickory Museum of Art on Saturday, October 20th, with a free event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by a talk by David Steel, curator of "Homegrown and Handmade III" in the Mezzanine Gallery. Supper follows at 7 p.m. (for ticket prices and other information, call 828-327-8576). Steel will also give a gallery talk on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2:30 p.m.

3). In conjunction with its current exhibit, Reynolda House, Winston-Salem plans an art trip on Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., including stops at the Carolinas Aviation Museum, Charlotte, and the N.C. Transportation Museum, Spencer. For fees, information and reservations, call 336-758-5900.

4). The N.C. Transportation Museum, Spencer is hosting the AACA Antique Car Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20th, and Halloween events -- The Pumpkin Patch Fair on Saturday, Oct. 27, and a night train at the Haunted Roundhouse from 6:30-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27.

5). "Art 21: Art in the Twenty-First Century" Film & Discussion will be held at the Main Branch, Wilmington Public Library ("Protest," Wed. Oct. 17, noon, and "Ecology," Wed. Oct. 24, noon), and also offered at the Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington -- "Protest" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, and "Ecology" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 - free and open to the public at either location.

6). The Tobacco Farm Life Museum, Kenly will hold its "Fall Heritage Day" on Saturday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (free).

7). The High Point Museum will hold the North States Rifles Civil War Reenactment from 10-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 28.

8). The Gregg Museum of Art & Design, Raleigh will exhibit "Sock Monkey Madness & The Red Heel Dream" from October 25-December 20, with an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25th, and a Gallery Talk at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 6.
